Individual Therapy for Adults in Austin, TX:
In our work together, you can expect a few things:
A relational approach. I value authenticity, compassion, collaboration, and playfulness. We will sit in tender moments together, and I’ll help you gently turn towards discomfort with compassion. We will also share moments of levity. You won’t get a blank face therapist, but rather someone who laughs at your jokes, and maybe even makes a few of her own. I’ll also help you identify when the standup act is a defense mechanism, and we will explore what the humor is protecting, without judgement. Whatever the tone of the session, I’ll be there with you to witness what feelings, thoughts, and sensations arise.
We will explore the impact that larger systems have on your wellbeing. This means that we will consider your individual challenges within larger social structures and systems of power. Your normal human responses won’t be pathologized (aka seen as a “you” problem).
Spaciousness. Space to slow down, to notice, to honor competing needs. Space to give feedback about what’s working and what’s not, to set your own goals, and to change them.
Specialized support for:
Highly Sensitive People who are deep feelers and might have internalized the message that they are “too sensitive”.
Anxious adults who seem to “have it together”, but are struggling with patterns of worry, self-doubt, and restlessness.
Adults whose caregivers may have struggled with addiction or mental health issues, and those with childhood neglect, trauma, or other adverse childhood experiences.
Survivors of sexual violence who want to process trauma at their own pace, using neurobiology-backed methods like EMDR.
Folks who are struggling with disordered eating, chronic dieting, or food-related anxiety, who want to find more ease in their relationship with food and their bodies.
Those who motivate themselves with shame and self criticism, but are questioning if that’s really working.
